Three young people seem to have died in an epidemic in March 1880.

The church consists of a chancel, north and south transepts, nave, west tower, and a north porch. The porch, a magnificent example of late 14th-century timber work, alone survives of the fabric of the original building, which was entirely rebuilt between the years 1881 and 1885. A remarkable marble lectern of the late 12th century, locally said to have come from Pershore Abbey at the time of the Dissolution, and a fine 15th-century font have also been preserved, while parts of the old windows have been reset in the modern walls.

It is sad to think that Margaret was laid to rest so far away from the remainder of her family.

St Peter ad Vincula, Tibberton, Worcestershire
(Click on an image for a larger version)

The unusual dedication of Tibberton's Church of England parish church to St. Peter ad Vincula ("St. Peter in Chains") is derived from the ancient Basilica of San Pietro in Vincoli in Rome. A poem was associated with the church stating "A stone church, a wooden steeple. A drunken parson, a wicked people.

An unusual and very attractive design for a war memorial.

 St Kenelm, Upton Snodsbury, Worcestershire
(Click on an image for a larger version)

In legend, St Kenelm was a member of the royal family of Mercia, a boy king and martyr, murdered by an ambitious relative despite receiving a prophetic dream warning him of the danger. His body, after being concealed, was discovered by miraculous intervention, and transported by the monks of Winchcombe to a major shrine. There it remained for several hundred years.

The military career of two senior soldiers is described in detail on memorials inside the church.

The village is so called because the manor was held from the 13th century by the Cistercian nunnery of Whistones in Worcester where the nuns wore white habits. The church has a Norman nave and chancel. The weatherboarded tower and spire were probably added in the 14th/15th century. There were restorations and partial rebuildings in 1860 and 1925.

"Umpa Dumpa Dee"

 All Saints, Church Lench, Worcestershire
(Click on an image for a larger version)

The ancient parish of Church Lench appears in the Domesday Book of 1086. Its earliest recorded history reveals that it was a gift by Kenred of Mercia to Evesham Abbey in 708. Its church, All Saints, is currently Church of England, and its earliest recorded priest was in residence in 1086. The 12th-century church was significantly extended during the 14th century and the 15th century.

Alexander Rennie was Chief Constable of the West Mercia Police.

St James the Great, Hindlip, Worcestershire
(Click on an image for a larger version)

The original church appears to have consisted of chancel, nave and tower, but was almost entirely rebuilt in 1864, when a south transept was added. In 1887 the church was further enlarged, the chancel lengthened eastward, the transept pulled down and the present aisle, chapel and vestry added. The church was also re-roofed and the tower considerably restored, so that little of the original fabric remains.

This Canadian soldier served in a Trench Mortar Battery - it is sad he is buried so far from home.

St Michael and All Angels, Martin Hussingtree, Worcestershire
(Click on an image for a larger version)

The west wall, which is 3 ft. 2 in. in thickness, with the subsequently widened west window, is probably of the 12th century, but the remainder of the building appears to have been rebuilt, perhaps in the early 13th century. In 1868 and again in 1883 the church was generally restored and the south aisle added.

(Click on an image for a larger version)

It is a small building consisting of a nave, with small porch, chancel, and a belfry and vestry (1884-5). The dedication is uncertain but an old will makes reference to the altar of St Nicolas in Pinvin Chapel it is probable that St Nicholas was its patron saint.

For 60 years "a consistent pledged total abstainer".

 St Mathias, Malvern, Worcestershire
(Click on an image for a larger version)

The initial church was designed by Sir G G Scott. It seated 300 people, and cost £1,900 to build. It was completed in 1846 and consecrated by Bishop Pepys of Worcester on the 13th of January. In 1858, the church was extended to the south, and a new tower was added in 1862. In 1880, the church was found to be too small, and the decision was made to extend it eastwards. Tenders were invited and Thomas Collins of Tewkesbury estimated the costs to be £2,400. The costs of this extension were principally met by Earl Beauchamp.

St Gregory’s Church, Castlemorton, is a grade 1 listed building. It is a fine if understated example of an English country church in which the varying architectural styles of the past 900 years blend seamlessly to reflect the continuity of the generations that have built and nurtured it.

"We are laid asleep in body and become a living soul."

St Mary, Longdon, Worcestershire
(Click on an image for a larger version)

A church of many periods, with only the 14th century lias stone tower remaining from the medieval building. The spire was added in 1826. The nave was entirely rebuilt in 1786 and is very light and airy. The chancel was extended in 1870 and its interior is much darker, emphasising the differences between churches of the 18th and 19th centuries.
