Shepton Mallet, Somerset - St Peter and St Paul
There is evidence of a church on the site from before the Norman Conquest, but the current building is largely from the 15th century, with further rebuilding in 1836 and 1837. As you can see, this visit was shortly before the 2018 anniversary of the First World War armistice.
James Parfitt was blind from infancy, and was organist of this church for 55 years until he died in 1856 aged 81.
Joseph and Frances Combe lost five children in their infancy. Jane and William Purlewent also lost five children in their infancy.
Charles Wickham died in January 1822 aged 15 after an illness of 4 years from suppressed Measles.
This Great War memorial tablet was moved here when Cannard's Grave Congregational Church was closed in 1976.
